10 South Bay plumbers worth keeping in your phone.
An editorial guide to the plumbing contractors who actually pick up the phone in the South Bay of Los Angeles — some family-owned since the 1950s, all CSLB license-verified, all built for hard-water coastal homes.

TL;DR
For a 2 AM emergency, call Sal's Plumbing (Redondo, since 1979). For a custom home or major remodel, call Miller Plumbing (El Segundo, since 1955). For a main-line sewer issue, call Bob & Marc (since 1956, C-42 licensed). For PV Peninsula work with permits, call Good Guy Plumbing. Every firm on this list has a verifiable CSLB license.
How we built this list
License, longevity, and who picks up at midnight.
Four filters. First, a valid California CSLB license (C-36 Plumbing or C-42 Sanitation) verifiable at cslb.ca.gov under the same ownership named on the website. Second, a real South Bay address, a local phone number, and an owner who can be named. Third, a review footprint across Yelp, Google, and (where available) BBB that reflects at least a few years of South Bay work with specific technicians mentioned by name. Fourth — because this is plumbing — honest availability for emergencies.
We also took the category-specific issues of the South Bay seriously. Hard water kills water heaters and copper pipes earlier than most LA County neighborhoods. PV Peninsula homes need permits and water-conservation compliance that flatland cities don't enforce. Beach-city homes often have salt-air-accelerated copper degradation. The firms we prioritized are the ones that understand these specifics.
Nothing on this page is sponsored. No contractor was contacted for approval and no one paid to appear. License numbers, founding dates, addresses, and phone numbers reflect public information as of April 2026 and should always be verified at cslb.ca.gov before contracting.
The list
Ten South Bay plumbers, ranked.
Ordered by years in business, license verifiability, review depth, emergency availability, and category fit for the specific demands of coastal South Bay plumbing.
Sal's Plumbing
Family-owned · full-service · 24/7 emergency · Redondo Beach + Torrance
Since 1979 · License CSLB #537357 · Redondo (310) 527-7006 · Torrance (310) 692-4183
Redondo and Torrance service locations
Redondo BeachTorrancePalos VerdesManhattan BeachEl SegundoHermosa BeachThe South Bay's most consistent plumber. Family-run since 1979, 45+ years under the same name and license, and the kind of technician-level reviews — Thomas, Hector, Joshua, Bryan, Salvador named by customers — you only see when the team actually stays.
Sal's is the default South Bay plumber recommendation for a reason. Two locations — the Redondo office at (310) 527-7006 and the Torrance office at (310) 692-4183 — cover the entire coastal South Bay plus Palos Verdes, with 24/7 emergency response and the kind of recent-review pattern that's hard to fake: real customer names, real technicians named, real addresses (Redondo Beach, Torrance, Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo).
The category of work is broad: drain cleaning and hydro jetting, leak detection, re-pipes, sewer line repair, water heater install and replacement, and emergency pipe bursts. If you're building a short list of plumbers to keep in your phone as a South Bay homeowner, Sal's is #1 on it.
Best for
- 24/7 plumbing emergencies across the South Bay
- Drain cleaning and sewer jetting
- Water heater replacement (standard + tankless)
- Leak detection and pipe repair
Miller Plumbing, Inc.
Multi-generational · custom homes + new construction · El Segundo
Since 1955 · License Licensed CA plumbing contractor
El Segundo, CA · since 1955
El SegundoManhattan BeachRedondo BeachHawthorneHermosa BeachPalos VerdesTorranceThe institution. 70 years in El Segundo, three generations (current owner Greg Rich, son of founder Steve Rich), and the rare South Bay plumber that works across single-family, tracts of homes, and apartment buildings — including the custom homes other plumbers can't touch.
Miller Plumbing has helped build or rebuild homes across essentially every South Bay city since 1955. The company's positioning is specifically large jobs, custom homes, and new construction — with specialized knowledge in mainline sewer video location and tankless water heaters. That makes them the right firm for a remodel or addition, not just a same-day fix.
Greg Rich is the hands-on owner and head journeyman plumber — the kind of direct-accountability setup that's genuinely rare in this category. Reviews consistently use the words "honest," "knowledgeable," and "reliable," often from multi-decade repeat customers. If you're doing a major project, this is the South Bay's most credible operator.
Best for
- New construction and custom-home plumbing
- Remodels and additions
- Tankless water heaters
- Mainline sewer video location
- Multi-family and apartment building work
Bob & Marc Plumbing
Residential + commercial + public works · Serving South Bay · Culver City origin
Since 1956 · License C-36 + C-42 (sewers) licensed · (310) 970-1099 · 24/7 (310) 979-1099
South Bay Los Angeles service area
Redondo BeachTorranceManhattan BeachHermosa BeachPalos VerdesEl SegundoHawthorneGardenaNearly 70 years of South Bay plumbing, 24/7 emergency service, and one of the few operators in this list holding both a C-36 plumbing license and a C-42 sanitation/sewer license — which matters for the public-works, commercial, and main-line sewer jobs most residential plumbers can't legally take on.
Bob & Marc has been plumbing the South Bay since 1956, covers residential and commercial, and is South Bay Building & Safety and Public Works approved. The C-42 license is genuinely useful — it means they can do sewer lateral repairs, main-line work, and municipal-side projects that require the sanitation classification.
For a homeowner, the practical version is this: if your issue is under the street, crossing city right-of-way, or requires a permit interaction with a city public-works department, Bob & Marc is the category-correct call. Free in-home estimates and 24/7 emergency across the South Bay footprint.
Best for
- Sewer main and lateral work requiring C-42
- Commercial and public-works plumbing
- Remodels, renovations, backflow testing
- 24/7 emergency service South Bay-wide
Pacific Coast Plumbing
High-end residential · custom + service · South Bay + Westside · Malibu origin
Since 1976 · License Licensed CA plumbing contractor
Serving South Bay and Westside from Malibu-origin HQ
Redondo BeachManhattan BeachPalos VerdesEl SegundoHermosa BeachTorranceFifty years, originally from a small building on PCH in Malibu. Owner David expanded into the South Bay in 1996 and built a team — Edwin, Henry, Jose, Juan — whose names show up in client reviews the same way a specialty coffee barista's does.
Pacific Coast Plumbing has always worked in the high-end custom residential space. The transition from Westside to South Bay happened in 1996 and the firm has kept the same quality posture: dedicated service and repair department, dedicated remodel and new-construction department, and a small enough team that specific technicians are known by name across reviews.
Good fit for a South Bay homeowner doing a premium remodel or who wants the plumber equivalent of a specialty contractor rather than a call-center dispatch. 24/7 emergency is available, but the firm's identity is planned high-end work.
Best for
- High-end residential remodels and new construction
- Tankless water heaters
- Re-piping premium homes
- Long-term service relationships
Tony's Plumbing, Inc.
Mid-size family operation · residential focus · Torrance
Since 1994 · License Licensed + insured CA · (310) 905-8484
Torrance, CA
TorranceRedondo BeachPalos VerdesHarbor CityCarsonFamily-owned since 1994. 13 technicians, 10,150+ satisfied clients, 800+ reviews, 100,000+ completed jobs — one of the largest family-run South Bay operations, with the structure of a mid-size firm and the accountability of a mom-and-pop.
Tony's has scaled further than most family South Bay plumbers — a 13-tech team means actual same-day availability without subcontracting the work out. The brand is recognizable for the fleet of branded vans around Torrance, Harbor City, Carson, and the PV Peninsula, and for the volume of reviews (800+) across platforms.
For a standard residential repair — clogged drain, broken disposal, failing water heater — Tony's is reliably available and reliably priced. Less of a custom-home specialist than Miller or Pacific Coast, more of a dependable workhorse.
Best for
- Standard residential repairs
- Same-day availability
- Disposal, faucet, toilet, water heater
- Families who want a long-term plumber relationship
Good Guy Plumbing
PV Peninsula specialist · family-owned · Torrance
Since 2001 · License #1112080 · (310) 879-5509
1450 W 228th St, Suite 5, Torrance, CA 90501
Rancho Palos VerdesPalos Verdes EstatesRolling HillsTorranceRedondo BeachOver 1,000 five-star reviews online and a specific focus on Rancho Palos Verdes and the Peninsula — including water-conservation code compliance that PV enforces more strictly than most LA County cities.
Good Guy's PV positioning is earned. The Peninsula has its own Building & Safety Division with strict plumbing codes and water-conservation rules, and Good Guy handles the permit process on homeowners' behalf for larger projects. That removes a genuine friction point for Peninsula homeowners.
The firm is family-owned, licensed + bonded + insured (#1112080), and markets itself on 100% satisfaction guarantees and upfront pricing. For a Rancho PV or Palos Verdes Estates homeowner, it's one of the strongest two or three calls in the category.
Best for
- Rancho PV and Palos Verdes Estates jobs
- Permit-required residential work
- Water-conservation code compliance
- Tankless water heater installs
RJ Plumbing
Small family shop · water heater specialty · Redondo Beach
Since 1987 · License #552174 · (310) 316-2189
Redondo Beach, CA
Redondo BeachManhattan BeachHermosa BeachTorrance38+ years of South Bay plumbing as a genuinely small family operation. Their specialty is water heater repair and replacement — including tankless — and their pitch is free phone estimates and $45 in-home estimates. The anti-franchise plumber.
RJ Plumbing is what the category looked like before every region got a "Smell Good Plumber" franchise: a real family business, consistent same-day-ish availability, and a specific expertise in water heaters (both tanked and tankless). They also flag one of the specific regional issues — extreme South Bay hard water causing pinhole leaks in copper pipes — and sell a whole-home conditioning solution (Nuvo) as a prevention option.
Good fit for a homeowner who specifically wants a small shop and is comfortable with a simpler service model (phone, estimate, schedule). Less appropriate for emergency 2 AM calls than Sal's or Bob & Marc.
Best for
- Tanked and tankless water heater work
- Hard-water remediation and descaling
- Small-to-mid-size residential repairs
- Homeowners who prefer a small owner-run shop
Wiseway Plumbing
Full-service · same-day · family-operated · Torrance · Telo Ave
Since Family-owned CA operator · License #858368 · (310) 984-5366
23520 Telo Ave, Suite 8, Torrance, CA 90505
TorranceRedondo BeachPalos VerdesEl SegundoHermosa BeachManhattan BeachFamily-owned, full-time (not commissioned) technicians, same-day service, and the kind of multi-site local presence that makes them a real competitor to the bigger brands. Also operates as Up to Code Plumbing out of the same Torrance address.
Wiseway covers the full residential service catalog — water heaters, drains, fixture replacement, leak detection, pipe repair, water lines, backflow, gas lines, water filtration — with a specific posture: certified technicians on salary (not commission), which removes the incentive to oversell. The Torrance HQ on Telo Ave gives the firm a real anchor point for South Bay dispatch.
Worth knowing: the same license number (#858368) also appears for Up to Code Plumbing at the same address, suggesting related ownership or successor branding. Either name is the same underlying crew. Strong fit for routine residential work and same-day service.
Best for
- Same-day residential service
- Backflow testing and gas lines
- Water filtration installs
- Homeowners who dislike commissioned sales-style plumbers
Up to Code Plumbing
Flat-rate residential + commercial · Torrance · Telo Ave
Since 2005 · License #858368 · (310) 984-5366
23520 Telo Ave, Torrance, CA 90505
TorranceRedondo BeachPalos VerdesHermosa BeachManhattan BeachGardenaLocal to Torrance since 2005, 20 years of flat-rate pricing — a genuinely useful positioning in a category notorious for surprise bills. Shares a license and Telo Ave address with Wiseway Plumbing, so treat the two as related operations.
Up to Code's flat-rate pricing model is the core differentiator: the price you're quoted on the phone is the price you pay. For homeowners who have been burned by hourly billing creeping up on a "simple" job, that alone is worth keeping the number in the phone.
Service range is broad — drain and sewer, fixture replacement, water heaters, pipe repair, sewer jetting — and the truck fleet runs fully stocked to avoid the second-visit upsell. Same underlying license as Wiseway, so in practice you're picking the brand whose scheduling desk you prefer.
Best for
- Homeowners who specifically want flat-rate pricing
- Predictable-scope residential repairs
- Drain cleaning and sewer jetting
Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Long Beach
National franchise · punctuality guarantee · Long Beach · serves San Pedro + South Bay edge
Since National brand · local independently owned franchise · License Franchise-licensed CA plumbing · (800) 259-7705
Long Beach-based franchise · South Bay service
San PedroHarbor CityLong BeachCarsonThe national option on the list. The Punctual Plumber guarantee — $5 per minute, up to $300, if they're late — is genuinely useful for time-sensitive jobs. Each location is independently owned, and the Long Beach franchise is the one that covers San Pedro and the eastern South Bay edge.
Benjamin Franklin is included deliberately as the national-franchise category representative, with the explicit caveat that quality varies by franchisee. The Long Beach franchise has solid aggregate reviews (4.82 across 109,000+ parent-brand reviews) and is the right category of firm when you absolutely need a technician at a specific time — a house sale inspection, a move-in day, a pre-tenant fix.
Not the call for the cheapest job on the list. The value is predictability and the punctuality guarantee — both of which matter for specific use cases and don't matter for most. For San Pedro homeowners specifically, Benjamin Franklin and Bob & Marc are the two default picks.
Best for
- Time-critical appointments (closings, move-ins)
- 24/7 dispatch with guaranteed response
- San Pedro and Harbor City coverage
Also worth knowing
Five more options worth knowing.
Not top-ten picks for most jobs, but useful to know in the right context — a middle-of-the-night emergency, an insurance claim, a time-sensitive closing, or a PV-niche referral in a Nextdoor thread.
Mike Diamond Services
Regional brand · 24/7 · mixed reviews · All of LA · 40+ year brand
Known for the "Smell Good Plumber" branding, 24/7 dispatch, and a wide LA service footprint. Caveat worth naming: Yelp averages a 1.4 for the Culver City entity (139 reviews, many citing high prices), while their own website and Google aggregate much higher. Use for true middle-of-the-night emergencies only, and get a second quote if the scope is large.

Rescue Rooter (ARS)
National chain · 24/7 · All of LA + South Bay
National brand with local franchises. Reliable dispatch, wide service footprint, higher pricing than family shops. Category-appropriate for insurance-claim jobs and for homeowners who specifically want a recognizable national brand name on the paperwork.
Visit ↗
Roto-Rooter
National drain + plumbing · Regional · South Bay dispatch
Still the category-defining name for drain and sewer work, in part because the original "Roto-Rooter" machine became the generic term for the service. Fine for drain clears. Same national-chain pricing premium to budget for.

Yelp + Nextdoor for Palos Verdes
Referral-sourced local plumbers · PV Peninsula niche operators
The Peninsula has a handful of solo-owner plumbers who appear only in Nextdoor threads and local-neighborhood Yelp reviews. Worth checking before committing to a larger firm for a residential repair — the smallest operators often have the best per-hour rates.

Your home warranty (if you have one)
Insurance-dispatched plumber · Standard residential
Not a recommendation so much as a reminder. If you have an active home warranty, check it before you call a retail plumber — many standard repairs are covered at a flat service-call fee. The tradeoff is less choice in technician; the upside is a much smaller bill.

If you're reading this for a reason
How we'd actually use this list.
For emergencies
Program Sal's Plumbing and Bob & Marc into your phone now, before you need them. Both have 24/7 emergency dispatch across the entire South Bay footprint. Sal's for standard residential. Bob & Marc when the issue touches a sewer main or requires the C-42 classification.
For planned work
Get three bids. For a standard water heater replacement, compare Sal's, RJ Plumbing, and Tony's. For a remodel or new construction, Miller Plumbing and Pacific Coast should both be on the list. Verify each CSLB license at cslb.ca.gov before signing.
If you're a home-services operator reading this
The pattern: the highest-ranked firms here are the ones whose technicians get named in reviews (Thomas, Hector, Edwin, Henry, Mark, Russell). That's the actual product — a crew that stays long enough for customers to remember them. Your website should surface that as clearly as the service list. Most plumbing sites still don't.
